RAA TEACHER PAUL TURK COACH RECEIVES AWARD
The Northern Section Track and Cross Country Advisory Committee has named Redding Adventist Academy (RAA) Coach Paul Turk the 2007 Northern Section Cross Country Coach of the Year.“The award is presented to those who have contributed to the sport over the course of their career,” says Scott Fairley, chair of the advisory committee. “Paul Turk built the cross country and track programs at Redding Adventist Academy and is thought of very highly by other coaches.”
Turk created the school’s cross country and track programs in 2003. That same year the boys’ junior varsity track and field team won the Mid Valley League championship. In 2006 the boys’ varsity team won the league championship. Turk coached the boys’ varsity cross country team to top ten finishes in the northern section in 2004, 2005, and 2006, placing 10th, 9th, and 8th respectively. The team is ranked third in the northern section for 2007. The girls’ varsity cross country team joined the boys’ varsity team as Mid Valley League champions in 2006.
“I was shocked to receive the award,” says Turk. “Big school coaches get these awards, not little school coaches.” Redding Adventist Academy has 56 students in its high school.
