Academics Redding Adventist Academy, which has had eleven senior classes, is proud that over 90% of these graduates have gone on to college or university. RAA places great emphasis on the scholastic development of its students and maintains firm standards for students participating in sports and other extra curricular activities. The RAA curriculum for grades K-12 follows the standards set by the Education Department of the Northern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The Adventist school system is the largest Protestant school system in the world with over 80% of its graduates continuing on to college or university. On average, less than 40% of public school graduates go to college. RAA offers both college preparatory and general diplomas. High school curriculum includes a comprehensive math program: algebra I & II, geometry, and pre-calculus; and a well-rounded science program: biology, chemistry, physical science, and physics. RAA provides a full complement of classes in English and social studies, including history, government, and economics. RAA also offers two years of Spanish. Students have many elective opportunities in the fields of art and music. Music includes choir, band, and handbells with performances at local churches and out-of-town festivals. The bells choir performs by invitation at Disneyland, and choir students have sung at Carnegie Hall. Music students also participate in an annual spring musical. They have performed “My Fair Lady”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The Music Man”, and others in recent years. Art is focused on an introduction to graphic design. Required business courses are keyboarding and computer literacy, including document processing. Students also take a life skills course comprised of drivers education, cooking, sewing, auto mechanics, and career choices. All high school students are automatically enrolled in a Bible class each semester. |
